why 4.6's are sexy

blah, slow is what they are, they arent bad,but as far as bang for the $ its kinda weak,i could just do heads/cams/intake but its still a 4.6,would heads/cams/intake even get me close to 300 at the wheels?

it depends what head/cams/intake combo you use....if you wanna save money you would just wanna go with a pi intake...but depending on the heads and cams you use you could easily be at over 300rwhp......with just the pi stuff and stock everything else you would only be at like 270hp...
either way in my opinion 281's are better than 302's..

r u on crack..taking out a 4.6 for a 5.0?dude put in p.i.heads cams intake buy after market plenum ,cold air and throttle body ,mass air meter,,long tube headers ,exaust, gears slicks, and no 5.0 is close.....then buy a charger in a year or 2 and your going 11's,you just started with a not so good year 4.6

ya 12's NA is no problem...11's NA even with the right heads and cams i am sure is possible....it isn't tought to make power outta these engines

well i guess i am on crack,i loved my 306 i had in my 87 gt,and i hate my 4.6, i mean, honestly rated at 215 hp?how much does it cost to have pi heads/intake and aftermarket cams put on?would just swapping for a 99+ gt motor be any better? my 4.6 only has 117ks on it but its still gay IMO id be happy with low 13's n/a and maybe id hook up nitrous,if i keep the car, theres a guy interested in trading for a blue flamed 90 coupe thats caged,115ks on it,ill prolly do it if he wants to trade me

okay sounds like you are thinkin along the same lines as me..here is my plan...and it could change :-\
1997gt 5 speed
air filter w removed air silencer
ported and polished plenum
pi intake manifold
pi cams
B&M pro ripper shifter
3.73's
o/r h
flowmaster catback
and i think with some sticky tires..et streets probably i should maybe break into the 13's.....and that is with the stock heads....pi cams you can pick up for $100us in the states....intake manifold brand new is only $200us...and the install on either of those i have heard really isn't that bad it just gets rough when you gotta change the heads....all of those parts relatively cheap in my opinion and then you will be low 14's maybe high 13's if you can drive..
then once you run high 13's run a 100shot of nitrous and that will take off over a second on your time....so you would be at like mid 12's....The idea is good in theory i just gotta prove it now.... :-X

FIRST 2 NITROUS there is no point changing cams if you don't change your heads....changing heads is easy, the cams are the hard part and to change heads you have to mess with the cams......the heads are the parts that you want to change to...i'm waiting for a good set of et streets and i think i'll be going 12.90's after headers are on.

go to mustangworld.com and read there FAQ...all of those guys in the states (well most of them) are running pi intake, pi cams, and npi heads....they say with pi intake and pi cams you will get 30-35rwhp and with heads 40-45...so really you aren't getting that much more...most of it is only coming from the increased compression....most people say it is the heads that are the problem on these cars but i say it is mostly the intake manifold and cams....many guys on mustangworld are running 13's NA with npi heads...

ya changing the heads will deffinatley give you more power but it will also boost the compression so you will need to run higher octane gas which sucks if its your everyday driver ...it will deffinately give your care more potential too but you also gotta change your head gaskets and bolts and all of that other stuff that goes along with it...but for like 1/3 of the price of the whole swap you can just throw in a pi intake and pi cams wihtout even having to remove very much and still see a huge difference...

yeah,if i keep it, i will most likely also go with the same plan as u,doesnt seem that expensive,i think i will spend the extra $ on aftermarket cams instead of pi

well the beauty of just getting pi cams is you can pick up used ones so cheap....

plus with getting aftermarket cams you might need new springs, rockers etc...

Well, my catback was over $700 after tax and now where near the gains of cams. I wish I could go back, I'd do cams/head porting instead of nitrous.

but this way you have the power when you want it and the gas mileage when you need it

I just might. Don't worry I have a Cobra tranny now as well as a spare T45 in my garage. We also have more than enough parts to build another T45. You need to come up with a better insult than that :-\

car is done. We went to pick it up yesterday and I think it turned out great. It was too low to get on the car trailer (even with no motor in it). I am getting it towed to my house tomorrow.

???? Beats me hehehe
Sucks that i still have to convert everything. I just bought my A1000 for my new fuel system and I still have to buy the fuel lines and the fittings. Then it shouldn't be a problem. I have to buy a 99+ Cobra computer. The 98 Cobra Computer that I have wont let my PATS work :-\. Not too much left to do at all. Once the car is in my driveway it won't take long at all

general concensus is running 100shot is more than fine for the stock bottom end if you have everything setup properly and have a safe air/fuel ratio.....150+ or having it incorrectly setup would be like russian roulette
Chris
11-06-2004, 05:38 PM
150 or more is not like playing russian roulette. 150 is fine. As long as you are running rich you are okay.... You can't lean it out or kaboom

i know Jon was running 150 shot on his 96-98 headswapped gt without any problems but the guys on mustangworld and corral both say to stay below 150 with a stock bottom end.. i dont see how it could be a problem other than you needing some really high octane gas to support it... :-\
